Как легко отвечать на вопросы True, False, Not Given

Сколько существует IELTS, столько и кандидаты пребывают в мучениях по поводу вопросов True, False и Not Given в IELTS Reading.

Эти вопросы не любят, часто в них ошибаются или просто не понимают, как эти вопросы работают.

Сначала смотрите пару советов о том, как к ним походить, а потом – важную стратегию, которая значительно сократит ваше время на ответы.

Быстрые советы

1. Если Reading – не совсем ваш конёк или из-за невысокого уровня английского Reading даётся вам хуже всего, то оставьте вопросы True, False и Not Given на самый конец.

Это значит, что лучше сначала ответить на все остальные вопросы по тексту. По мере того, как вы ответите на все остальные вопросы, вы узнаете текст лучше и будете быстрее в нем ориентироваться.

Это должно помочь с True, False и Not Given.

2. Когда вы практикуетесь в Reading, внимательно проверяйте себя и поймите, почему в данном вопросе именно этот ответ (True, False или Not Given). Если в книге или на сайте, где вы практикуетесь есть подробные объяснения, то не поленитесь их почитать и понять логику составителей теста.

Только понимая эту логику, вы к ней постепенно привыкните, и вам станет значительно легче находить ответы на такие вопросы.

Стратегия “вопроса”

Теперь простая стратегия, с помощью которой вы можете улучшить свои результаты по True, False и Not Given.

Идея в том, чтобы превратить утверждение в вопрос, и уже ответить на него.

Посмотрите на пример.

Colleges attract potential students by visiting high schools. (И нам нужно ответить, это – правда, ложь или этого не дано в тексте)

Превращаем это утверждение в вопрос – Do colleges attract potential students by visiting high schools?

Если в тексте говорится об этом – да, “колледжи ходят по школам и пиарят себя, привлекая абитуриентов”, то ответ будет TRUE.

Если тексте говорится “колледжи предпочитают рекламу в интернете, а не походы по школам”, то получается ответ “нет, они не пиарят себя в школах”. Ответ FALSE.

Если в тексте говорится только “современные колледжи используют несколько инструментов для привлечения студентов, и этим занимается специальный департамент”, то получится ответ “я не знаю, ходят ли колледжи по школам, текст об этом не говорит”. Получился ответ NOT GIVEN.

Эта стратегия особенно помогает не путаться с FALSE и NOT GIVEN.

Примеры на английском

Прочтите абзац и особенно фрагмент жирным текстом:

For Robert B. Cialdini, Professor of Psychology at Arizona State University, one reason that companies don’t succeed as often as they should is that innovation starts with recruitment. Research shows that the fit between an employee’s values and a company’s values makes a difference to what contribution they make and whether, two years after they join, they’re still at the company. Studies at Harvard Business School show that, although some individuals may be more creative than others, almost every individual can be creative in the right circumstances.

Утверждение:
Most people have the potential to be creative.

Превращаем его в вопрос:
Do most people have the potential to be creative?

Текст говорит: “almost every individual can be creative”. Почти каждый, т.е. most people. Легко!

Другой пример. Прочтите абзац:

One reason, conscious or not, for what someone chooses to collect is to show the collector’s individualism. And believe it or not, there is at least one dog collar museum in existence, and it grew out of a personal collection.
